22 KCRAR REALTOR® members graduated yesterday from the UMKC REALTOR® Leadership Academy, a 10-month program where students studied advanced industry principles, leadership development and business management practices. KCRAR partnered with UMKC’s Henry W. Bloch School of Management for the creation and development of the Academy.

The commencement ceremony followed their final capstone presentations in which the graduates presented their final research and insights exploring the risks to the real estate industry that were found in the National Association of REALTORS® commission D.A.N.G.E.R Report.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our graduates and their commitment to this incredibly important program,” KCRAR CEO Kipp Cooper said. “We heard a number of great ideas that will help keep us relevant as an association to our members.”

2018 KCRAR Treasurer Bobbi Howe spoke to the group on her own experience in a leadership academy and how it has positively influenced her career. She left the graduates with two challenges. The first was to use their new education and build on it; the second was to encourage fellow REALTORS® to explore their own professional development by attending committee meetings, trainings or the even the Leadership Academy.

Howe said that her career would not be what it is today if the one person hadn’t recommended her to the leadership academy she attended early on in her career. After Howe spoke to the graduates, a commencement ceremony followed, where each graduate received their certificates of achievement.

“The UMKC REALTOR® Leadership Academy is like no other in the nation,” Cooper said. “It’s a small investment for a UMKC-quality curriculum providing practical tools, personalized business coaching and team-based activities that can take their career to the next level. When agents dedicate themselves to the Leadership Academy, they truly have an opportunity to improve their business and become the best resource in their community.”

Brian Klaas, Dean of the Henry W. Bloch School of Management, said the education these graduates gained at the Academy will be directly applicable to their careers in the real estate industry.

“This program was really designed to provide a lot of opportunity for hands-on learning,” said Klaas, “so you would have students that have the opportunity to come cover rigorous material, learn some difficult concepts and then very quickly apply it.”

Not only do these 22 graduates now have the opportunity to move forward in their careers with this new education, but they have also earned Alumni status at the Henry W. Bloch School of Management.

Updated Headshot

The response to Carly’s headshot photo offers has been overwhelming. It’s exciting to see so many agents interested. In the very near future, Carly will be assembling a calendar invite to fill slot days and times. She will try and accommodate as many agents/teams as possible, but it’s quite possible there will be more participants than slots available. Once she has finished up the YE event design tasks, we will make the sign ups available and it will be first come, first served based on the email replies that came in. This is who I currently have on the list.

Heartland MLS will soon be introducing four new required fields for listing input. These fields were among those included in the Enhanced Listing Challenge program launched by Heartland MLS in 2016 to encourage more complete listing data within the MLS. Results from the Enhanced Listing program combined with agent feedback were supportive of the benefits of making four of these fields required for all listings.

The following fields will soon be required for all new listings entered into Heartland MLS. The official date of this new requirement will be announced in the coming weeks.

  • Above & below grade finished square footage (with source field)
  • Lot size (with source field)
  • Detailed directions
  • Minimum of one photo relevant to the property

No Fee and Reduced Fee Supra Lockboxes Available in 2018

The 2018 “no lease fee” lockbox allotments have been established for KCRAR Members with Supra keys and MLS listing activity in 2017. And KCRAR has announced that additional iBoxes over a Member’s no cost allotment will now be available at a reduced annual lease fee equivalent to $1.67 per month. The annual iBox lease fee has been reduced from $30 for a full year lease to $20. The new annual lease amount is effective Feb. 1.

Members were sent an email on Jan. 11 stating the number of no lease fee complimentary Supra Lockboxes to be provided in 2018. Members can return extra lockboxes to KCRAR or hold on to them, extending the lease at the new, lower cost. Or, if more lockboxes have been allocated to members than they currently have in their possession, or if they would like to lease more than was allocated to them, they can stop by the KCRAR office starting March 1 to pick them up.

Supra Lockboxes add an extra measure of safety by ensuring only authorized members access the secure system while tracking who and when someone has entered the property. KCRAR provides Supra Lockboxes to its members for their safety and the safety of their clients.

Click here for more information about the Supra lockbox system and the allocation process.
