Unneeded Lockboxes Due to KCRAR Feb. 28

This is the time of year when members may return unneeded iBoxes (http://kcrar.com/key-lockbox-system) before they are committed to leasing extra iBoxes for the year. KCRAR members who have more iBoxes than their 2018 complimentary lockbox allotment and plan to return unneeded lockboxes may return them before Feb. 28 to avoid paying an annual lease fee in 2018. However, those members who would will be leasing iBoxes over their no-lease fee allotment may do so for a small annual charge, which was recently lowered from $30 to $20.

In addition to dropping off unneeded iBoxes at KCRAR, there will be two opportunities in February to drop off equipment at remote locations for         convenience:

First Federal Bank at Zona Rosa 8308 NW Prairie View Rd. Kansas City, MO 64151 12 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22

First Federal Bank Lee’s Summit 1255 SE Oldham Pkwy Lee’s Summit, MO 64081 12 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23

Please note, iBoxes may only be left at the First Federal locations on those specific dates and times.

Lockboxes are allotted each year based the listing activity of each member per month in Heartland MLS. To read more information on how the         complimentary allotment is calculated, members can go to http://kcrar.com/lockboxallocation.

KCRAR provides a complimentary lockbox allotment program for its members to demonstrate its commitment not only to the safety of its members, but also to its members’ clients and customers. Supra Lockboxes add an extra measure of safety by ensuring only authorized members access the secure system, while tracking who and when someone has entered a property.

REALTOR® members required to take Code of Ethics training by Dec. 31

This year is a code of ethics education year. As mandated by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), members are required to complete an ethics training by Dec. 31 every two years, on even numbered years. All REALTOR® members must complete 2.5 hours of code of ethics training by Dec. 31 of this year to continue their membership with the Association.

“The code of ethics is an integral part of what sets the REALTOR® apart from anyone else selling real estate,” KCRAR President Andrea Sheridan said. “When our consumers hire a REALTOR®, they know that comes with a high standard. REALTORS® are a part of a larger organization that maintains specific practices to ensure high quality professionalism, like requiring these code of ethics trainings.”

Several options exist for members to take the training course. Members can take their training in-person or online through KCRAR for free and receive 3 hours of CE credit. To register for a live class or online class through KCRAR, members can go to the “Upcoming Classes” or “KCRAR Online CE Classes” sections under the Education and Events tab in the member portal. New members can also go online to take a KCRAR New Member Tour which includes the ethics training requirement.

Members may also complete this training online through NAR. NAR’s online code of ethics training has specific training options for residential, appraisal and commercial agents. However, agents who do not take their training through KCRAR must remember to submit their course certifications to KCRAR to satisfy their requirement.

And, members can always go back to see whether they have satisfied their code of ethics training requirement by logging in to the member portal.

KCRAR Upgrades Online CE Program at No Cost to Members

A new upgrade is coming to KCRAR’s online CE courses on Feb 2. Formerly, all the online CE courses KCRAR offered came in a text format only, but with this new upgrade, seven of the 11 online CE courses will have a new text with audio option. This new selection of premium upgraded courses is now included in the KCRAR member benefit offering of CE courses, completely free to members.

“At KCRAR, we are continuously striving to expand and provide quality curriculum,” Director of Education Alison Trevor said. “I am happy that our strong Affiliate partnership with Career Education Systems has enabled us to deliver a better product and online CE experience to our members free of charge.”

The improved format includes engaging interactive elements and audio from experienced instructors that can be accessed on multiple types of devices. The new courses include sample questions throughout the course so students can quiz themselves in preparation for the exam at the end of the three-hour course.

These courses normally cost $30 each, but KCRAR will be offering them at no cost as a member benefit.

Monthly Cost of Supra eKey to Decrease

KCRAR continues to seek out ways to increase services and reduce costs for members. After negotiating with Supra, KCRAR is pleased to announce a price decrease for one of the association’s most widely-used member services. The monthly cost to subscribe to eKey will decrease by $3.34 per month effective March 1, making the new monthly eKey cost $20.35 plus tax.

This pricing change equates to an annual cost savings of over $40 for KCRAR members currently using the eKey and also provides a price incentive for those members upgrading from the older DisplayKey.

For those members still on the DisplayKey, subscription to that equipment will increase by $1.77 per month. The new pricing structure aligns the costs of both key options. DisplayKey service will continue on a six-month billing cycle from Supra, while the cost of eKeys service is charged monthly.

While most associations across the nation phased out the DisplayKey years ago, KCRAR has opted to keep that equipment available to members because of its formerly lower cost. DisplayKey does not offer all the same features as the eKey, and some of the Supra features such as ‘end of showing’ notification do not work well in Kansas City because that service requires all members to be on the eKey platform to perform as designed.

DisplayKey users interested in switching to eKey should do so before March 1 when the DisplayKey six month service fee is due.

Facebook Changes

I have had several agents ask me about webinars and upcoming events that are focused around the recent Facebook changes and what it means to our real estate Business Pages.

I wanted to share a few videos and resources with you:

One of the best resources I have for learning about social media content, changes, how-to’s, etc is Katie Lance. If you aren’t following her on FB or Twitter, you should!

She gave an excellent presentation last week at Inman Connect in NY on the recent FB changes, what is means for our industry and things you can be doing to enhance/increase your FB audience. I have not been successful finding a video of her presentation, but did find her slide deck and an awesome article she wrote about the presentation content. Lots of good information here!

Article Link (scroll down once the page loads): https://katielance.com/fbnewsforrealestate/

Slide Deck: https://www.slideshare.net/katielance/what-facebooks-latest-announcement-means-for-real-estate

Chris Smith is another good industry resource for social media marketing/etc. He did a Facebook like event yesterday and had some interesting comments (towards to beginning of his :60 min video) about the Facebook changes. You can watch his video here: https://www.facebook.com/CuraytorChris/videos/1657432190985365/

I hope this helps! If anyone runs across other articles or videos that might be helpful for all of us, please share!

Have a great day! Christian
